Pattern 1: Thermal Airflow & Variability
- Meaning: This pattern shows us the importance of natural ventilation, and the impact of nature in motion on concentration, brain performance and wellbeing; and especially in the activities below:

2. How do we experience this pattern naturally?
- Subtle changes in air temperature
- Relative Humidity
- Air flow/breeze across the skin
- Surface temperature that mimic natural environment

3. Objective of this pattern: To provide a space that allows users to experience airflow and thermal variability(changes in temperature) as well as control in the variability.
This is important as it improves concentration and comfort
4. How do we experience this Pattern everyday?
Solar Heat gain

Shadow and shade

Radiant surface material e.g a hot earth, sand or stone

Vegetation with seasonal densification

PS: Space without sensory stimulation and variability leads to boredom and passivity

5. When not found naturally, how is this pattern simulated or constructed
Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning (Controls temperatures and airflow in the space)

Window Glazing(Controls temperatures in the space)

Window Treatment(Regulates the amount of lighting)

Systems Control(Gives users control over their environment)

6. How can you enjoy the benefits of this pattern
- Ensure enough natural lighting enters your space

- Where possible keep your windows open to allow for natural air flow

- Get out and soak in some sun as well as natural air
